The countdown is on; we have 12 days left until our “Celebrating Youth” dinner.
Southwest Open School launches first annual celebration banquet
In celebration of more than 30 years of service to the community, Southwest Open School (SWOS) is inviting community members to the school’s first annual fundraiser dinner and auction.
Titled “Celebrating Youth, A Benefit Dinner for the Southwest Open School (SWOS),” the event will raise money for much-needed infrastructure and technology upgrades.
“Folks in our community don’t have a lot of money, yet they are incredibly generous,” said Reid Wright, Board Treasurer. “It’s because of their generosity that we were able to purchase a school bus, and it’s because of their generosity at this event that SWOS will be able to bring learning technology to help their students master much-needed 21rst century skills.”
The event is scheduled for 5 p.m., March 4th at the Cortez Elk’s Lodge, 2100 North Dolores Road in Cortez. Tickets are $40 before the event and $45 at the door. They are available for purchase at the school: 410 N Dolores Road in Cortez, or by calling 970-565-1150. Steak, chicken or vegetarian options are available.
Founded in 1986, Southwest Open School is a charter high school that utilizes field trips, hands-on learning and character development to prepare students for real world success. While this is not its official mission, SWOS often acts as a critical safety net for students who face unique challenges and do not respond to traditional education.
