Why students love SWOS
SWOS helped me discover my true potential in every aspect of my life. Before SWOS I didn't know where my life was taking me. I had no goals and no vision but that all changed when I started to attend SWOS. The staff there are amazing and they don't ever give up on students but rather challenge them in ways that make it possible for students to accomplish. This is definitely a place where students who wouldn't talk to eachother actually communicate. They even helped me with getting into college. Because of SWOS my life is so much better. Anyone would be luck for their child to go to school here. Mary Rose Silas Proud Former Student.

My experience with this school was outstanding. A big part of going to this school is learning how to effectively communicate with people. You learn principles of teamwork and problem solving in groups. Leadership skills are built upon heavily. This school is wonderful for experiential learning. Students have access to field trips all around the western Unites States. Snowboarding/skiing, mountain biking, rafting/kayaking, and community service are some of the options. SWOS also encourages high school students to enroll in college courses, and during senior year at SWOS there's an entire class about filling out FAFSA and how to take steps to becoming a college student. The student body at SWOS is small but incredibly diverse, and the instructors are all genuinely dedicated to seeing their students succeed. At SWOS, students learn life skills and are given the necessary experiences and tools to become life long learners and effective communicators in both chaotic and calm situations.

SWOS is the best school I've ever been to. It's a carter school and because of that it doesn't have as much resources for sports or higher level education but it does excel in creating a family on campus. Every student has to go through a social emotional learning course and that has a massively noticeable impact on how the students behave and treat each other. Going through my four years at SWOS the best part was always seeing the new freshmen of the year going from annoying middle schoolers to decent and functioning adults that now have the resources to do anything they want socially. I do wish we had better academics but with the already poor area the school is located and the lack of funding it makes it hard to even have a full staff but my school still remains magnitudes better than any other school in the area.
